A bout between to of the UFC’s top flyweight contenders is reportedly set for September’s UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 event in Brazil. According to a report from Brazilian news site Globo.com, the UFC is working on finalizing the bout between Joseph Benavidez and Jussier Formiga.
Benavidez is currently ranked No. 2 at 125-pounds, while Formiga is ranked No. 6. With a win, Formiga would likely be just one win away from a title shot with Benavidez looking like the next challenger for the title if he walks away from Brazil as the winner.
Demetrious Johnson and John Moraga are currently set to battle for the flyweight title at UFC on FOX 8 on July 27.
There has been no official venue or location set for the event in Brazil, but Belo Horizonte and Porto Alegre are reportedly the favorites to serve as the host city for event. We do know that UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 will serve as the live lead in to the season premier of The Ultimate Fighter 18: Team Rousey vs. Team Tate on September 4 with a two-hour main card.
No other fights for the event have been rumored or confirmed.
