Kobe Bryant missed the NBA Playoffs this year after tearing his Achilles tendon late in the season. He was asked about his all time starting 5, and his choices has some people scratching their heads.

His starting 5: Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Bill Russell and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

While there are two Lakers stars on this list, some are suprised that Kobe Bryant didn’t include himself on this list. And an even more noticeable slight is LeBron James. LeBron just won his second NBA Championship and second Finals MVP trophy and is considered by some as the best to play all time.

But let’s be honest, if Kobe Bryant didn’t put himself on there, LeBron wasn’t going to be.

And some have thought that Larry Bird was the less clear-cut choice to make this list. And Bryant defended his choice of Bird.

“I will say as the years go on people really forget how great Larry Bird was,” Bryant said. “He was ridiculous. And I grew up in LA – just like everyone else here – hating his guts. Dude – the guy was just money.”

Bird has a impressive resume. He was a 3 time NBA MVP, 3 time NBA Champion and was part of the 1992 Dream Team.
