Yesterday, the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans were talking about a trade that would send forward Shawn Marion along with the 13th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft to the Louisiana based franchise. And while that trade still might go down, it appears as if the Pelicans are going to have some competition.
According to Sheridan Hoops, the Mavericks and Cleveland Cavaliers are in ‘serious’ discussions about sending Marion and the 13th pick to Ohio.
Per Joe Kotoch:
Also, sources tell SheridanHoops.com the Cavs are in serious discussions to acquire Shawn Marion from Dallas in a lopsided trade that would allow them to move up from No. 19 to No. 13 in the first round by relieving the Mavs of Marion’s $9.3 million salary, allowing Mark Cuban more salary cap flexibility to use on July 1.
The Mavericks and Cavaliers were reportedly in talks weeks ago about a potential swap, but the Cavs rebuffed when the Mavericks asked for a future first round pick. Now with just a few days remaining until the draft, it’s possible both sides have a better idea of what they’re wanting to do.
