Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Wandy Rodriguez has been out of action since he was placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 5 with forearm tightness, but the Buccos will likely see the left-handed pitcher return to the line up later this week. With his return, Jeanmar Gomez will be pushed back in to a relief role.
Rodriguez had a rehab start on Sunday for Triple-A Indianapolis, where had had no reported issues with his arm.
During the outing, Rodriguez struck out five batters and walked one, allowing just one run in four innings on the mound. Before the injury landed him on the 15-day disabled list, Rodriguez was carry a 3.59 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 46/12 K/BB ratio.
Rodriguez’s return will come at a perfect time for the Pirates, who are currently riding a four-game win streak and sitting just one game back from the NL Central lead.
When Rodriguez returns to the mound, the Bucs will hope for the same success he had during his rehab start so he can help the Pirates take over first-place and allow the fans to chant, “Raise the Jolly Roger.”
