United States beach volleyball star Kerri Walsh Jennings gave birth to her third child this spring and now she is working on getting back in shape so that she can return to the beach with a new partner. After winning three-straight Olympic gold medals with Misty May-Treanor by her side, the 34-year-old Walsh Jennings will be making a run for gold in Rio with her new teammate April Ross.
“She’s a stud,” Jennings said, via USA Today. “I respect her so much. She’s been my main competitor for so many years. She’s driven me more than any other person so it’s going to be so fun to partner up with her.
“It’s kind of a lot like Misty. I had so much respect but she was on the other side of the net. Then we got together and magic happened. I’m hoping and planning that happens with April.”
Ross leaves her Olympic teammate Jennifer Kessy in order to compete with Walsh Jennings.
Walsh Jennings and Ross are planning to return to action together this July at the ASICS World Series of Beach Volleyball in California.
We have grown so used to seeing Walsh Jennings and May-Treanor competing together that it is going to be very strange to see Walsh Jennings move forward on the sand with Ross by her side.
