When asked about Niklas Backstrom in a interview, Wild GM Chuck Fletcher said,

We’re familiar with Nik. He’s familiar with us. He’s earned the trust of his teammates through his professionalism and his work ethic. Nobody’s more prepared as a goaltender than Nik. I’ve never seen a goalie practice that hard, and you’ve got to give him a lot of credit. He’s been a model of consistency.

Backstrom was tied for first this season in wins and help set a franchise-record eight game winning streak. We were forced to see a Niklas-less team in the Western Conference Quarterfinals against the newly crowned champion Blackhawks. He suffered a sports hernia before the series started and was unable to play in any of the games, which ultimately led to the Wild’s demise.
