The Golden State Warriors will be sitting on the metaphorical sideline at the 2013 NBA Draft. Because of two previous trades, the Warriors are without a draft pick in the first round for the first time since 2000, and the fact that they do not have one in the second round either is a franchise first.

Golden State will lose it’s first round pick to Utah, as an ancient reparation of the disastrous 2008 Marcus Williams trade. They lose their second rounder to the New York Knicks as additional compensation for the David Lee sign-and-trade of 2010.

There is obviously a possibility that the Warriors could buy into the draft, as they have done it before, with their fourth pick in the 2012 draft coming from a buyout from the Atlanta Hawks. Despite the overtures about the strength of this particular draft, especially at the top, the Warriors would probably still find a way to steal some talent late in the first or early in the second round. Two of their most important players during the playoffs, Festus Ezeli and Draymond Green, came with the 30th and 35th pick.

The Warriors don’t need anymore developing talent, as they already have such a strong nucleus of young players, but given the managements ability to find success in even the latest picks (and some undrafted selections), don’t count out the Warriors in this years draft.
