Sacramento Kings Extend Qualifying Offer To Tyreke Evans

While some expected the Sacramento Kings to walk away from Tyreke Evans, that was never much of a serious consideration as the Sacramento Kings extended a qualifying offer to the former Rookie of the Year this afternoon.

Per Bryan May of News 10 Sacramento:

The #NBAKings extend qualifying offer to Tyreke Evans, making him a restricted free agent.

The qualifying offer was essentially nothing more than a formality as the Kings certainly weren’t going to lose Evans for nothing in a free agent market rich with teams looking to spend. By extending Evans the qualifying offer, the Kings will be due at minimum to pay Evans his scheduled near $7 million dollar salary at minimum.

Being a restricted free agent, a team could attempt to sign Evans but the Sacramento Kings will now have the right to match the said offer.

If Evans does not sign an extension/new contract with the Kings this Summer and does not sign with a new team, he will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year.
