The New York Yankees have learned that first baseman Mark Teixeira could be lost for the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on his right wrist. While it is not set in stone, Teixeira’s surgery is expected to bring an end to his season.
From ESPN’s SportsCenter:
Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira announces he will undergo surgery on his right wrist. The procedure will likely end his season.

This is obviously not an ideal scenario for the Yankees and Teixeira.
New York currently sits just two and a half games back of the Boston Red Sox in the AL East, but they will need to close the gap and take the division lead without Teixeira in the line up.
It is still possible that Teixeira will return by the end of the season, but that seems highly unlikely at this time. But since this is the Yankees, they will be able to march forward with another talented player that can make the fans forget about Teixeira’s absence.
