Draft Grade: A
The Sacramento Kings selected Ray McCallum out of Detroit with the #36 pick, the sixth pick in the second round. A surprisingly savvy pick by the Kings’ new management, as McCallum is a favorite of many analytically-driven analysts. Despite playing in a small conference, McCallum did enough to be considered a sure-thing in the second round of the 2013 draft.
McCallum isn’t a great shooter, but he’s very athletic and only averaged two turnovers per game last year, which isn’t too bad considering he played at Detroit and didn’t have a ton of talent surrounding him. This pick is solid from the Kings; they aren’t expecting to contend soon, and it’ll be fun to watch McCallum help run the show in the new SacTown.
