Bill Raftery Leaves ESPN to Join FOX Sports 1

When FOX Sports announced they were ready to re-brand their networks and bring us the 24/7 sports channel FOX Sports 1, many believed it was a cheap attempt to compete with ESPN that would never succeed. Well, we know that FOX Sports isn’t messing around after their latest addition to their team.

FOX Sports 1 announced that legendary college basketball announcer will be leaving ESPN to join Gus Johnson on FOX Sports 1. How is that for a dream team?

This is a huge signing for FOX Sports 1 and it certainly sets the tone for more big hires to come.

“We completely understand his interest in remaining associated with the core group of schools that he’s been part of for 30+ years, and we wish him the absolute best in his next chapter and thank him for his incredible contributions to ESPN,” an ESPN source told Big Lead Sports.

While calling games for FOX Sports 1, Raftery will still be able to call games for CBS Sports during the NCAA tournament.

The network has announced loads of live sports programming that will include the UFC, college sports, FIFA World Cup games, MLB games and UEFA Champions League action, but it is the personalities that will be on-air that will help make or break the network.

They sure are off to a good start.

FOX Sports 1 is set to launch on August 17.
