NBA Draft 2013: Sacramento Kings Trying to Trade Up for Ben McLemore

While the Sacramento Kings hold a comfortable seventh selection in tonight’s NBA Draft, that’s apparently not high enough for them as they’re attempting to trade up.

According to a report from Yahoo Sports, the Kings have been calling teams all day in an effort to move from their seventh spot to select Ben McLemore out of the University of Kansas.

Per Wojo:

Sacramento has been aggressive in trying to move up from seventh in the draft, league sources tell Y! Likely target: Ben McLemore.

The McLemore fit is a bit strange considering the amount of shooting guards the Kings have with both Tyreke Evans and Marcus Thornton. However, with Evans a restricted free agent and the Kings potentially trying to move Thornton, the Kings may be attempting to go for a complete re-tooling, in which sense McLemore would certainly make sense.

McLemore’s draft stock had been rumored to dip a bit but apparently the Kings front office doesn’t feel his stock has fallen enough as they don’t feel they could draft him seventh overall.

Sam Amick points out the potential trade could be a swap with Phoenix.
