Draft Grade: A
With the 44th overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft, the 14th pick of the second round, the Dallas Mavericks selected Mike Muscala, power forward/center from Bucknell. The pick was traded to the suddenly-savvy Atlanta Hawks.
Danny Ferry continues to do work as the Hawks’ general manager. Muscala is a favorite of analytics-savants, as he worked the glass and was very efficient for Bucknell in 2012-13. He also has some touch and athleticism on the offensive end, to pair with good intelligence and positioning on the defensive end of the floor.
Muscala could have gone in the late first round, and even though he’ll likely play the power forward spot in the NBA, he is a very, very good value pick in the mid-second round. His rebounding and proficiency on the offensive end will be enough to make this selection worth it. Probably one of the steals of the draft.
