I’m not sure what the rush is on trading starting pitchers – maybe the teams are worried their somewhat successful seasons will turn into pumpkins in the next few weeks, so they want to get as much as they can while the going is good. Either way, it appears the market for starting pitching will be getting thinner and thinner as the MLB trade deadline nears.
A few days ago, the Miami Marlins said they wanted to trade starting pitcher Ricky Nolasco as soon as possible and the Chicago Cubs are taking a similar approach with Matt Garza, who is expected to move traded ‘well before’ the trade deadline.
Per Nick Cafardo:
Heavy traffic on Cubs righty Matt Garza. Should be dealt well ahead of trade deadline according to major league source.
As Cafardo mentions, there are a ton of teams interested in Garza. The Texas Rangers were reportedly one of a handful who scouted Garza’s impressive outing last night while scouts from the Orioles, Giants, Padres and Dodgers were all reportedly in attendance as well.
