Struggles continue for Rory McIlroy in 2013 after missing the cut at a tournament in his homeland this weekend.
The 24-year-old golfer carded a score of 72 in the second round after a dismal 74 in the first round. That was enough for a six-over finish and an end to his weekend of golf.
“It’s disappointing as I feel I played okay today but it’s not nice not to be competing. But there were a few good things out there. I just need to work on my game,” McIlroy told Sky Sports.
It’s just another event to add on a long list of struggles this year for McIlroy. He withdrew from the Honda Classic back in February, noting that he had tooth pain during his bad round of golf and received plenty of backlash from players and fans.
McIlroy then struggled in both of the majors this year, finishing at 2-over for a tie at 25th in the Masters tournament and 14-over for a tie at 41st in the US Open.
With the British Open coming up soon, McIlroy will have to figure it out quickly if he wants the second-half of the year to erase how awful this first half has gone.
