While Dwight Howard and Chris Paul have proven themselves to be the most desired free agents this Summer, former Atlanta Hawks forward Josh Smith is lurking right behind. It’s likely that Smith will wait until Howard signs, which will guarantee him the biggest possible payday available and according to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, there are at least five to six teams who’d like to make Smith their key free agent acquisition.

Josh Smith expected to have 5-6 suitors when free agency begins Sunday night. Like everyone, his situation is affected by what Dwight does

One such team might be the Detroit Pistons, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein:

The Pistons have plenty of cap room for Smith, so it’s more of a question of fit than actual ability to sign the talented forward. With both Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe expected to man the Detroit front line, if the Pistons were to bring in Smith it would be either because they feel he can play small forward effectively or they feel he’s talented enough to move either Drummond or Monroe.
