While there were rumors that the Los Angeles Clippers could potentially acquire Andrea Bargnani from the Toronto Raptors earlier today, the New York Knicks swooped in and traded for the lengthy big man instead.

The Knicks will acquire the former overall number one pick in exchange for Steve Novak, Marcus Camby and a 2016 first round pick.

Per Howard Beck:

UPDATE: Knicks and Raptors have agreed to deal to send Bargnani to New York. Awaiting league approval.

Update: The first-round pick being sent to Toronto by the Knicks is in 2016.

It’s a hefty price to pay for Bargnani who still has two years and nearly $22 million left on his deal. Still, the Knicks are hoping Bargnani’s length and perimeter shooting will essentially combine the skills of Novak and Camby into one player.

The Knicks were able to shed the salary of Marcus Camby who played sparingly last season when he was healthy, which wasn’t very often. Camby will be due just over $4 million dollars this season and a partial guarantee of over $1 million dollars for the 2014-15 season.

Steve Novak is signed through the next three seasons for about $11 million dollars combined.
