Dwight Howard is supposedly inclined to leave Los Angeles and Mike D’Antoni’s system.Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets have been the favorites to sign the center. Dwight met with the Rockets first thing after the free agency period began. The Rockets trotted out Yao Ming and Hakeem Olajuwon to help recruit the center.
The Dallas Mavericks however will have to wait until Tuesday to meet with Dwight according to ESPN Dallas. The Mavericks and Mark Cuban are bringing Dirk Nowitzki to present their case to Dwight Howard.
By waiting till Tuesday Dwight could possibly have made up his mind already, but ESPN LA’s Dave McMenamin quoted a source saying “there is no frontrunner.”
Howard has also agreed to meet with the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors have put David Lee on the trade block to possibly clear salary cap room.
Howard said he’d wait till July 10th to announce his decision, it’s the first day free agents can sign deals.
The Los Angeles Lakers can offer the largest contract with a 5 year $118 million deal. The other teams could only offer Dwight a 4 year $88 million deal.
