You know that old saying, the rich get richer?
Well, how about those San Antonio Spurs. A rebound away from another NBA Championship (sorry, Spur fans), the Spurs have their free agent priorities locked and loaded with AK-47 as their prime target.
The veteran small forward recently opted out of his contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves which would have paid him $10 million dollars for the upcoming season. Now 32, the Russian born Kirilenko wants to win and who better to give him that opportunity than the Spurs.
Per Marc Stein of ESPN:
One of the teams that troubles Minnesota in Wolves’ bid to retain Andrei Kirilenko: San Antonio. I’m told Spurs have AK-47 in their sights
Shockingly enough, the Spurs actually have the cap room to sign Kirilenko if they wanted to as they’re only committed to $42 million dollars in payroll. To do so they would have to renounce the rights to both Manu Ginobili or Tiago Splitter, but if they wanted to get crafty enough to pay AK-47 they could.
Can you imagine Kirilenko on one wing with Kawhi Leonard on the other? Scary.
