NBA Free Agency 2013: Tyreke Evans Wont Sign if He Has to Play Small Forward

Take note, teams attempting to sign Tyreke Evans – don’t ask him to play small forward because he wont sign with you. That’s the word from Jonathan Santiago who said sources close to Evans say the former Rookie of the Year wants absolutely nothing to do with playing the three.

Per Santiago:

Chances Tyreke signs w/ NOLA low if they plan on using him at SF. Source close to Evans says Reke won’t “go anywhere for any amount as a 3.”

Evans of course was forced to play the small forward position at times under former coach Keith Smart, something he was extremely uncomfortable with. It also negates his size and speed advantage, something he’s able to utilize much more effectively in the backcourt.

Earlier tonight it was reported that the New Orleans Pelicans were meeting with Evans, but with limited cap space available it looks like a sign and trade would be needed if the Pelicans wanted to bring Evans to N’awlins. They’re sure to have competition as well as it’s been reported that potentially 17 teams have interest in Evans.
