ESPN analyst and former Notre Dame Fighting Irish basketball coach Digger Phelps has learned the good news that he is cancer-free, just two months after being diagnosed with bladder cancer. Phelps received the positive news after completing a six-week treatment program and just one day before his 72nd birthday.

Phelps was very thankful to those who have been there for him and that supported him and his entire family throughout the difficult time.

“It’s amazing once this thing went national, the response, and prayers have been answered,” Phelps said, via the South Bend Tribune. “To the people in this community and the people around the country, and especially Linda and my family, for what they did the last three months. …. we got it done again with cancer.”

“I always say that the power of prayer is the will to win. Little did I know, practice what you preach.”

Phelps will return to television with ESPN this summer, but he will still be undergoing “maintenance treatments” every three months for the next two years.
