J.R. Smith Nearing Deal to Re-Sign With New York Knicks

The NBA Sixth Man of the Year is reportedly close to signing a new deal. Despite some early flirtation with teams on the free agent market, J.R. Smith is said to be closing in on a deal with the New York Knicks. Details of the deal are still coming together, but it looks like an official announcement could be coming soon.

From Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports:

Smith hit a cold streak in the postseason as the Knicks watched their chances to advance fall apart, but he was a big reason the team got to that point in the first place. If Smith can return to his regular season form from this past season, there is no reason to believe that the Knicks can’t get back to where they were this year and potentially even further.

Free agency kicked off just after midnight on Monday, so be sure to stay tuned to FanSided.com throughout the free agency period as we keep you up to date with the latest news and rumors from around the league.
