The Washington Wizards are expected to offer the team’s former No. 1 overall pick John Wall a max contract extension in the near future.

Wall is eligible for a maximum contract extension, which could be signed sometime between now and the end of October. The former No. 1 overall pick is currently touring through China with adidas, but multiple league sources expect an agreement to be reached before the deadline.

Wall was limited to 49 games last season after suffering a knee injury and missing the early parts of the season. The Wizards struggled mightily without their leader and were playing abysmal basketball until he returned. When Wall recovered, the Wizards showed some improvement and the point guard finished the year averaging 18.5 points, 7.6 assists and 4 rebounds.

Washington selected Otto Porter with the third overall pick in this year’s draft and the team now has a nice young core with three lottery picks at the helm – Wall, Porter and Bradley Beal. Assuming Wall stays healthy, many expect the Wizards to be serious playoff contenders next season.
