Mike Dunleavy was apparently a very coveted free agent this summer, with the interested teams reaching double-digits. What ultimately allowed Dunleavy to settle on the Chicago Bulls was the team’s aggressive approach to convince him that the team would provide him with the best possible situation.
“I was very flattered by all the interest,” Dunleavy said. “There was a lot of interest; it was well into the double digits. I had some good opportunities, but Chicago blew me out of the water.
“I don’t think it’s fair to say it was one thing that determined my choice; it was just the entire package they presented me. There was high interest from them right off the bat. I knew they wanted me and that meant a lot. I couldn’t envision a better situation.”
Dunleavy signed a two-year deal with the Bulls, and should be a great fit. Chicago is rebuilding the team’s bench, which lost a lot of it’s firepower when Kyle Korver and Omer Asik signed big deals elsewhere. Dunleavy’s ability to knock down the 3-point shot and provide instant offense off the bench, is something that the Bulls will definitely need.
