Despite signing free agent Marco Belinelli to a contract earlier today, the San Antonio Spurs hinted that they still had intentions to bring back Gary Neal.

However, ESPN’s Marc Stein is reporting that Neal is now expected to draw interest as teams feel they can snatch the guard away from the Spurs who are nearing their cap ceiling.

Per Stein:

Strong indications today that NBA Finals hero Gary Neal will NOT be back with San Antonio. Which is why Spurs moved so fast on Belinelli

Neal is said to be getting interest in restricted free agency at a price point that San Antonio, to this stage, has been unwilling to match

All that said, the Spurs will hold final word on Neal as he’s currently a restricted free agent.

Neal’s future will most likely come from the type of offer he’s given from an opposing team. If the Spurs deem it too rich, they’ll clearly let him walk but that may take a team considerably overpaying the Towson product.
