Golden State Warriors Aren’t Clearing Cap Space Solely For Dwight Howard

The Golden State Warriors have been very active lately trying to work out trades to clear cap space. The sudden rush to make deals to clear cap space have raised eyebrows and to some possibly suggested that they’ve won the Dwight Howard sweepstakes.

But there is a report that says the Golden State Warriors would be clearing this cap space regardless of what happens with Dwight Howard’s free agency. And suggests that if they don’t get Dwight, they’d pursue another max-level free agent.

According to CBS Sports:

One person briefed on Golden State’s cap-clearing efforts told CBSSports.com that the team is intent on clearing room regardless of Howard’s decision. If Howard says no to Golden State, the Warriors are expected to use the room — if successful in moving contracts — to chase another max-level free agent such as Denver forward Andre Iguodala, the person said.

An announcement from Dwight Howard on where he will sign could be coming any day now according to CBS Sports:

There have been indications from Howard’s camp that a decision on his future will come as early as Friday, with one person familiar with Howard’s strategy telling CBSSports.com, “the sooner the better.”
