As the MLB trade deadline nears, there are a lot of teams in desperate need of bullpen help. So what if you could get a former top closer for free? It’s an intriguing prospect for a handful of teams who reportedly are scheduled to watch former San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson throw in early August, this according to Buster Olney.

Former Giants closer Brian Wilson is working out in Hawaii and could pitch for teams later this month or in early August.

The Giants attempted to bring Wilson back for the 2013 season but he declined as they wouldn’t give him a guaranteed deal after the eccentric closer underwent his second Tommy John operation last season. Now essentially a season and a half removed from pitching in a Major League game, Wilson is set to return – at least – he hopes.

Wilson decided against coming back too early and has been building his arm strength the past few months, rather than coming back to start the season and risk further injury.

As a Giants fan, I just don’t want him back. How can he assume he’s going to get guaranteed money. Screw him. We don’t pay for what you’ve done for us. This is still a business. He can go back to the East Coast that he apparently loves so much.
