For the first time since the UFC began holding events on Super Bowl weekend, the event will be held outside of Las Vegas. The UFC announced today that a return to the East Coast was set with the organization bringing their big Super Bowl event to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. In the past, some of the UFC’s biggest title fights have been held during the big weekend event.
The Super Bowl in 2014 will also be held in New Jersey, so there will be plenty of action that weekend in New Jersey.
UFC 159, which was headlined by a light-heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen, was recently held at the Prudential Center. It was Jones’ second time fighting for the title in Newark. In his first match, Jones defended Shogun Rua to earn the title.
Over the next six months, every UFC belt will be on the line so there will be plenty of options for the promotion if they want to headline another Super Bowl weekend event with a top notch title fight.
