Although incredibly deserving and potentially the should be starter for the National League, St. Louis Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright will not be available to pitch in the 2013 MLB All-Star Game.
According to Derrick Goold, the Cardinals have altered their pitching rotation which will now have Wainwright start two times before the Midsummer Classic. Per MLB rules, he will not be allowed to pitch in the game as he’ll be pitching the Sunday before Tuesday’s All-Star game.
Adam Wainwright won’t pitch in All-Star Game, if selected, because his schedule has changed to start twice, inc Sun before ASG.
Currently 11-5 with a 2.36 ERA, the 31 year old Wainwright is experiencing one of the best seasons of his career and will be an obvious selection to the All-Star game.
While he wont be able to pitch, he will still be eligible to be selected (which he will be) and he’ll have the opportunity to attend the 2013 MLB All-Star Game in New York, if he so desires.
National League manager Bruce Bochy will select an alternative when the time comes.
