After an incredible featherweight match up to kick off the main card of UFC 162, Mark Munoz and Tim Boetsch prepared to enter the octagon in a middleweight clash between to top ten fighters in the weight class. Both fighters remained in the top of the 185-pound rankings despite recent losses, so they were both looking to return to their winning ways and climb up the ladder as they get in the mix for a middleweight title shot.

In typical Boetsch fashion, he came out with a front kick looking to press the action. Boetsch landed some early takedowns and kept Munoz pressed against the cage, until The Filipino Wrecking Machine was able to separate and get back to the center of the octagon and land a takedown of his own.

There was plenty of crafty grappling between the two men in the early going.

Boetsch threatened with a dangerous choke, that he used to gain top position, but Munoz rolled out and both men returned to their feet where they had a wild exchange of heavy punches.

In the second-round, the two men continued to exchange heavy blows during the early going before getting back in the clinch game where Munoz was able to land the takedown and find himself in a dominant position. Munoz landed some vicious ground-and-pound to the body before Boetsch was able to get back to his feet, but Munoz quickly landed another takedown and returned to a dominant position.

Munoz landed some powerful ground-and-pound to end the second frame as he looked to go ahead on the scorecards.

Boetsch opened up the third round with another guillotine attempt that he was nearly able to turn in to a Japanese necktie, before looking for an arm. Munoz was able to sneak out of the submission attempt and land in the top position where he could once again rain down his powerful ground-and-pound blows.

Munoz was relentless in his attack as he was able to dominate Boetsch for the remainder of the round on his way to a unanimous decision victory. When the judges scorecards were read, Munoz took the win an each card — 30-26, 30-27 and 29-28.
