The world was stunned when Chris Weidman knocked out Anderson Silva Saturday night at UFC 162, but not one fan should be shocked UFC President Dana White is already clamoring for a Weidman-Anderson rematch.
Meanwhile, Vitor Belfort has to wait in the background.
“I guarantee you there’s nothing more he wants than that rematch with Chris Weidman,” White said late Saturday night in the UFC news conference following UFC 162 at the MGM Grand.
“I’ve never had a problem getting Anderson to fight, he’s never turned down a fight or said, ‘I don’t want this guy,’ ” White said. “He’s been a great champion and a man of his word.”
The only man not happy about the potential rematch is Belfort, who was reportedly texting White right away about a match with Weidman according to Chris Howie at MMAnews.com:
“Anderson Silva has gone undefeated since 2006 and has beat everybody and held the title. He deserves the rematch. Chris Weidman said that before he even fought him. Vitor is just going to have to wait – he is not getting a rematch. He can text, Tweet, write ****ing letters, call his Congressman — he can do whatever he wants to do. He’s going to have to wait. Anderson Silva is getting the rematch.”
So there you have it. Weidman-Silva II is all but a sure thing while Belfort fumes in the background.
