San Diego Padres Catcher Yasmani Grandal Suffers ACL, MCL Damage

It has not been a positive season for San Diego Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal.

What began with a PED suspension and an injury will most likely end with another injury after the Padres backstop suffered significant knee damage in yesterday’s game against the Washington Nationals.

Per Padres manager Bud Black, via Corey Brock:

Yasmani Grandal on crutches. Damage to ACL and MCL. “Not good,” said #Padres manager Bud Black.

The injury occurred as the Padres were attempting to turn a double play. Nationals rookie Anthony Rendon slid into Grandal, attempting to break up the play sending Grandal to the ground where he he had to be assisted off of the field.

While Grandal hasn’t been deemed out for the season as of yet as doctor’s want to get a better look at the injury, it’s a distinct possibility that his 2013 season is over. We’ll know more once Grandal gets back to San Diego for proper examinations.

If that happens to be the case, Grandal will finish the season with only 28 games played, hitting .216 with 1 home run and 9 RBI.
