2013 MLB All-Star Game: Atlanta Braves Freddie Freeman Leading Yasiel Puig in National League Vote

Major League Baseball likes to give the fans a voice, which is why they allow the final roster spot on each of the American and National League All-Star rosters to be decided by the fans. The vote is usually somewhat of a mockery, but this year there happens to be a bit of a shocker going on – at least in the National League.

Many had suspected that Los Angeles Dodgers rookie phenom Yasiel Puig would be the runaway winner, but Atlanta Brave fans have something to say about that as currently, first baseman Freddie Freeman is leading the National League voting.

Per MLB.com Twitter:

NL #FinalVote update 1. Freddie Freeman, ATL 2. Yasiel Puig, LA 3. Hunter Pence, SF 4. Ian Desmond, WSH 5. Adrian Gonzalez, LA

No numbers were given in the results, so both Freeman and Puig could be relatively close but either way it’s a bit of a shock given what we expected.

It shouldn’t be more than a two horse race though, despite Hunter Pence of the San Francisco Giants being well deserving of a spot.

Voting ends Thursday, July 11th.
