While both sides smiled and played relatively nice in the media, Boston Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck may have oiled up the gloves last night during an interview with the Boston Herald.
Steve Bulpett was talking to Grousbeck about the uncompleted traded that will send Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to Brooklyn when the Celtics co-owner took a random turn, essentially blaming Doc Rivers for the trade, citing the former head coach as the reason the Celtics felt they needed to blow things up.
“The moves are just rumored,” he said of the aforementioned trade. “I mean, Doc left us, period. Doc left us. No spin will take that away. It was his idea and he left, and we made the best of it.
“We think we’re even with Doc. We think the nine years were nine great years. We would have been happy to continue, but that was not to be. I’m really glad Doc spent nine years here.”
Grousbeck seemed a bit torn on whether to blame Doc or praise him, so he took the opportunity to do both.
