The Los Angeles Clippers managed to not only retain their top free agent Chris Paul this summer, but also landed Doc Rivers as the team’s new head coach. The drama surrounding the former Boston Celtics coach has been very well documented, and his arrival in LA essentially locked up CP3 for a long-term deal with the team.
After a disappointing postseason, Paul is clearly very excited to work under Rivers and has tremendous respect for his new coach already.
“I’m so excited to play for him,” Paul said. “Words can’t describe it. Doc is amazing. Everything that has happened doesn’t automatically translate into wins but it gives you an opportunity to win so I’m excited about the process.”
The Clippers didn’t end their postseason signings with the acquisition of Rivers. The team moved Eric Bledsoe and Caron Butler, receiving Jared Dudley and JJ Redick in return. With an improved roster, a competent head coach and a happy superstar, the Clippers should be very interesting to watch next season.
