Bubba Watson caused quite the stir when he released this YouTube video depicting himself maneuvering over water hazards and through sand traps via a hovercraft/golf cart hybrid straight out of the most boring science-fiction story imaginable. (Seriously, it’s 2013 and all we have are freaking hovercraftsfor golfing? If we don’t have jet-packs and/or light-sabers by 2014, I’m starting a movement to impeach Obama.) Especially impressed was Pete Duffey, managing director of Windy Knoll Golf Club in Springfield, Ohio, who decided to order two of the hovercrafts after watching the video.
We’re always looking for a way to set ourselves apart from the competition. We’ll be able to offer something that no one in the area, in the state and at this point in the country can offer.
A normal weekend round at Windy Knoll currently costs $40, but a round where patrons choose to use the hovercrafts will run around $230.
Duffey said that golfers will be allowed to drive the craft onto the lake, although the putting greens and bunkers will be off-limits for now. The first hovercraft is scheduled to arrive on July 18th, with the second arriving the following week.
