FC Barcelona and Spanish national team striker David Villa seemed to be all but set for a move to Tottenham and the Premier League. Well, according to The Sun, that is no longer the case, and Villa will be moving to the Spanish capital and joining Atletico Madrid.
Barcelona have agreed a deal with their La Liga rivals to sell the Spanish striker for a bargain £4.4million.
A club statement read: “FC Barcelona and Atletico de Madrid have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of the player David Villa to the Madrid club.”
Atletico added on Twitter: “The agreement and the signing of Villa as a new player at Atletico will be formalised after the player has taken a medical.”
After landing Neymar, it was clear that Villa was quickly becoming expendable at Camp Nou, and Barca tried to shop Villa to other teams. Needless to say, landing a player of Villa’s caliber for £4.4 million is a massive steal.
Villa never managed to reach the level of play he displayed in his years with Valencia. Part of it can obviously be attributed to the fact that he faced tough competition for a spot in the starting eleven and finding consistency was tough.
Villa will replace the departing Falcao, who moved to Monaco earlier this summer.
