There has been some recent speculation that veteran winger Jaromir Jagr was considering a deal with the Buffalo Sabres in free agency, but the rumors have quickly been shot down by Jagr’s agent, who was very clear that the Sabres and Jagr were not a potential fit.
“I have not talked to anybody in Buffalo and the Sabres have not called,” Petr Svoboda told the Buffalo News on Tuesday. “It’s absolutely not true. Speculation.”
If Buffalo did want to make a move, they could certainly do so.
The Sabres have approximately $11 million in available cap space, so they have the financial flexibility to add Jagr. However, the team hasn’t made many moves, so it doesn’t seem likely that they would make a splash with Jagr.
Jagr has also been tied to the Montreal Canadiens and Carolina Hurricanes.
While it is still too early to consider any team a favorite to land the veteran, you would have to consider Montreal one of the most likely landing places because of the yearly flirtation between the two sides.
