Chicago Bulls, Luol Deng Working on Contract Extension

Despite hinting they weren’t working on an extension as recently as two weeks ago, representatives of Chicago Bulls small forward Luol Deng were in Chicago recently attempting to work out a trade extension with general manager Gar Forman.

Per Yahoo Sports:

Chicago Bulls general manager Gar Forman met with the representatives of Luol Deng to continue discussions on parameters of a contract extension this week, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Forman and Deng’s agents, Ron Shade and Herb Rudoy, met on Monday in Chicago to further dialogue on parameters for an extension, league sources said.

Deng, 28, has one year, $14.3 million on his deal and could become part of the star-filled free-agent class of 2014 if he doesn’t reach a long-term agreement with the Bulls.

The contracts signed by Andre Iguodala and Josh Smith this offseason have set the market for Deng’s representatives and they’re hopeful that they and the Bulls can come to a long term agreement.

It should also all but squash the rumors of Deng being traded, which seem to happen more often than my cell phone running out of battery life.
