Jay Z To Pursue Yasiel Puig, Yoenis Cespedes

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Jay Z already has one prominent MLB player signed as a part of his agency, Roc Nation Sports, in Robinson Cano, Now he wants to add to that list, as he is reported to be pursuing phenom Yasiel Puig and outfielder Yoenis Cespedes in an effort to get them to sign with his agency.

A source tells Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports that, when the Dodgers were in New York to play the Yankees earlier in the season, Jay Z invited Puig to a party at one of his clubs. According to the same source, he left the meeting intrigued, although he is also talking to at least one other agency in New York as well. If Puig makes it into the All Star Game through the final vote, he will be in New York again this year.

It’s also reported that Jay Z has spoken with young outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, who will be in New York for the Home Run Derby. Both of these young outfielders could command ridiculous contracts, so it’s no wonder why Jay Z is pursuing them. In his first MLB season, Puig has been too good to be true, hitting .407/.441/.659 with 8 homers and 8 doubles already. Cespedes, who hit .292/.356/.505 with 23 homers in his rookie season, has not been as strong his year. He’s on pace to hit more homers than last year, but with just a .224/.286/.427 slash line.
