Yesterday it was reported that the Philadelphia Phillies were interested in New York Yankees pitcher, Joba Chamberlain. This morning it was reported that the Yankees were in deep discussions to trade Chamberlain to a National League team. Add up the numbers, carry the four, multiply by seven and one would assume the Yankees were in talks to trade Chamberlain to the Phillies.
That’s not the case, according to Ken Rosenthal.
Per Fox Sports:
#Phillies are NOT one of the teams pursuing the #Yankees’ Joba Chamberlain.
The addition of Chamberlain would be a bit odd for the Phillies unless they were able to move one of their larger contracts as they currently sit 7.5 games out of first place in the National League East.
Either way, Phillies or not, a move to the National League would be a welcome destination for Chamberlain who has struggled this season. The 27 year old arm currently holds a 5.75 ERA in 20 innings of work after dealing with a handful of injuries the past season and a half.
