The Texas Rangers have decided to put their ace pitcher, Yu Darvish, on the disabled list. Thanks to the upcoming All-Star break, he may not have to stay there long.
Rotoworld reports that the starting right-handed pitcher will be placed on the 15-day DL, but it’s retroactive to the day after Darvish’s last start on Saturday against the Houston Astros.
Darvish obviously won’t start Thursday, but the good news is that the Rangers suspect he’ll only miss just the one outing before returning when first eligible on July 22. Either Ross Wolf or Neil Ramirez will get the ball on Thursday in Baltimore.
Only missing one start won’t hurt the Rangers, who will need their ace as they continue to battle the Oakland A’s for first place in the American League West. He won seven of his first nine starts but cooled off to an 8-4 record. He faced seven straight starts between wins when he had two losses and five no decisions.
Darvish has a 3.02 earned run average on the season and leads the MLB with 157 strikeouts.
