The Avalanche have signed the No.1 pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, Nathan MacKinnon, to an three year entry level contract. According to an article on SI Wire, MacKinnon “was the first player to be selected No. 1 by the Avalanche since the franchise moved to Colorado in 1995.”
The Avalanche executive vice president of hockey operations, Joe Sakic, also had this to say about the signing in an announcement last week,
We are happy to have Nathan under contract and anxious to see him at training camp. His presence will bring additional speed and talent to our team, as well as a lot of excitement to our fans.
MacKinnon is likely to be used as the Avalanche’s third line center, in a statement from coach Patrick Roy. It will be interesting to see how he performs in the NHL, and his transition from his playing days in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
What do you think? How will he help the Avalanche, let me know in the comments below!
