If you played NHL 94, you know how awesome it was. If you haven’t but you have seen the Vince Vaughn movie Swingers, you know how awesome NHL 94 is. In the flick Vince Vaughn plays NHL with his buddy and tries to bust open Wayne Gretzky’s head.

They took the fighting out of the original NHL 94 game but you could make players heads bleed. They look like they’ve added back the fighting but the trailer doesn’t mention the head bleeding ability.

The rosters will be current but just the old style of the game.

From USA Today:

In a clear move to reach thirty and forty somethings whose sports video gaming interests peaked while playing Sega Genesis in their dorm rooms or first apartments and listening to 2Pac’s Me Against The World, EA Sports has included an “NHL 94 Anniversary Mode” in the upcoming version of its classic hockey franchise. NHL 14 will be released on September 10 in North America.

The throwback version will include current rosters but have the old blue ice, music and star player indicators. EA Sports has not reported whether there will be a feature in this version that brings back Wayne Gretzky or allows players to actually make his head bleed. Hopefully it will not include the terrible pro wrestling voice narrating the above promo.
