The New England Patriots took another hit this offseason. After thinking it couldn’t get much worse than the negative attention former tight end Aaron Hernandez brought to the franchise, cornerback Alfonzo Dennard was arrested for a DUI.

Alfonzo Dennard also served a 30 day jail sentence earlier this offseason for a delayed sentence from a legal issue that occurred days before he was drafted in 2012.

The Patriots were quick to release Aaron Hernandez when he was arrested in connection with a murder trial, but there isn’t indication what they will do with Dennard yet.

From the New England Patriots website:

"“The New England Patriots are extremely disappointed to learn of Alfonzo Dennard’s arrest. We take this matter very seriously and are working to get more information on the incident.”"

The fact that they have’t released him yet and the statement says nothing to indicate they’re thinking about it should be considered a good sign. Dennard was currently on probation for punching a police officer could present legal issues for him. He could miss parts of training camp while in jail for probation violation.
