The notion swirling around Dallas that the Mavericks and owner Mark Cuban have whiffed on free agents like Deron Williams and Dwight Howard got further solidified when Andrew Bynum signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers. But this report will definitely solidify that notion.
Apparently, Andre Iguodala was one hour away from signing with the Dallas Mavericks before the Golden State Warriors ironed out a deal to land the coveted free agent instead.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle:
Finally, an hour before Iguodala was to sign with the Mavericks, the Warriors made two concessions in the deal with Utah and were able to send Jefferson, Biedrins and Brandon Rush – along with two first-round picks and two seconds.
The Dallas Mavericks failed yet again to land a big target free agent. If that doesn’t have you believing the “free agents don’t sign with Dallas” conspiracy what will.
Dallas meanwhile has managed only to sign veteran guards Jose Calderon and Devin Harris. Both in their 30′s. Looks like the Mavs are going to have to return to their roots and being aggressive in the trade mark and maybe sucking up and taking the luxury tax hit to remain competitive.
