Max Scherzer Loses Undefeated Season As Tigers Fall To Rangers

Tigers Pitcher Max Scherzer started the night 13-0, and now it ends 13-1. He was unable to keep his undefeated streak alive, as the Tigers fell to the Texas Rangers by a score of 7-1. Scherzer put up a stat line with 6.0 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, and a 3.19 ERA on the night.

The Rangers got on the board first, scoring 3 runs in the 4th inning, including the only home-run of the game by first baseman Mitch Moreland. The Tigers managed to put on their only point of the night in the bottom of the fourth. The Rangers then proceeded to score one run in the fifth, as well as 3 more in the ninth to take the 7-1 win.

The loss was Scherzer’s first in the regular season since September 23, which was over a period of 21 starts.

Scherzer was on the verge of becoming the first pitcher since Roger Clemens in 1986 to start a season 14-0, but he will have to wait another season to try again.
