The Minnesota Twins are not a name you hear often when it comes to MLB trade rumors, but general manager Terry Ryan just changed all of that when he revealed the team would be willing to trade elite reliever Glen Perkins.
It’s a shocking revelation, and Mike Beradino of the Pioneer Press had the quote first:
“If somebody overwhelms you with something, then you’ve got to listen,” Ryan said. “There’s no question. You just can’t say, ‘No.’ It’s not just Glen Perkins. It would be anybody in this situation. If somebody wants to talk about a guy, I’m all ears. Go ahead.”
It is hard to act surprised that the Twins will be sellers at the deadline considering they are headed toward another 90-loss season. Stil, Perkins is one of their only quality assets.
Shipping Perkins off may be the best move, but it has to be a tough one to swallow for fans. Perkins will land the Twins a heck of a haul when it comes to future potential, but it’s a devastating move to have to start over again after trading pieces to contenders.
