A photo surfaced on the Internet early Sunday morning that showed Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey and his brother Mike Pouncey of the Miami Dolphins wearing hats in a nightclub that sported the message “Free Hernandez”. The hats were obviously referring to their former Florida Gators teammate and friend Aaron Hernandez, who is currently behind bars while he awaits trial for his first-degree murder charge.

Folks around the Internet were disappointed with Pouncey Brothers’ actions and insensitivity about the situation and apparently the Steelers organization caught wind of the photo.

According to Ed Werder of ESPN, the Steelers plan to have a discussion with their starting center:

"The Steelers are not commenting on the photos, but according to a source they plan to talk to Maurkice Pouncey about the photos. A source close to Mike Pouncey expects the Dolphins to have a similar talk with the team’s starting center."

Maurkice and Mike Pouncey were with Aaron Hernandez at a nightclub in 2007 on the night of a shooting that left two men wounded. All three of the men were questioned by police, but no player was charged with a crime.

Let’s hope that the Pouncey’s can steer clear of anymore hat controversy.
