Matt Garza of the Chicago Cubs is going to be traded. It’s not a matter of when anymore, as several MLB trade rumors say the folks who run things in Chicago are willing to work hard and get a deal done this week.
The teams reportedly leading the way for Garza are the Texas Rangers, Toronto Blue jays and Cleveland Indians. The St. Louis Cardinals are considered a dark-horse at the moment. David Kaplan of CSN Chicago had the report via video.
St. Louis should probably be considered more of a threat at this point with all of the cash it saved after Albert Pujols’ departure, not to mention all of the stellar prospects they have in the their farm system.
Remember that the Cubs were also flirting with the idea of bringing back Garza on an extension, which was a rumor most considered to be a smart tactic to drive the asking price up. If these new reports are true, the posturing was just that.
Stay tuned. When Garza ships off we’ll have his new location first.
